I doubt that you will lose both or any of them.
|
Well as long as your water quality is good.
|
Interesting combination of Crush coral and fine sand for your sand bed.
|
Tank looks nice. The frogspawn looks good for 1 month and will most likely make it. It looks like the xenia has taken root in your tank. 6 months from now you will have a forest of xenia :D
What size tank? What are you dosing? |
i thought of trying some thing with having big crush and for the sand sifters some fine sand so far seems to work realy good and looks cool too not worried of cross over i'm in the process of building a 150g plexi tank then i will put all medium fine crush in this is just a 55g
just getting back in the hobby from 9 years ago :) ________ Iolite vaporizer |
all i have been doing is ounce i got it started kent marine tech-cb
and food concists of brine and mysis for the fish . medium crill , silversides for the snowflake eal and for the filters phyto-feast live my next step is to get a calk reactor or what do you guys think i should do you know better then me :) coaline is taking off on all pumps and starting on glass now ________ Mo |
How long until you have the 150 set up? When it comes to equipment I qould buy everything oversized that way it will all work for the 150 too, unless you plan to keep the 55 going too. What are your future plans? Do you plan on keeping mostly softies, lps, sps, clams, mixed, etc? If you plan on keeping corals with high calcium demands you may want to consider a calcium reactor.
|
i think i have to get all new stuff the 55 is going i will build a sump to fit the tank too no sump on the 55 , i just got a 175 wat mh so i will keep that but add another or a new light setup for the future plans i would like to keep a little of all corals if i could , i didn't plan on the new tank but ounce i seen the life and the stage i was able to get to with the 55 on a budget i thought that it was the next step and the fact my stand will fit a 150g didn't help :) but i do have 2 more boxes and i could get a 300g tank on it but don't let my wife know :P no i find a 4 foot tank is easy to place any ware compared to a 6 foot or bigger
________ STARCRAFT REPLAYS |
i think i might try to do a sump like this one or some thing simalar

i really like the 4 foot tanks but when i upgrade from the 90 my next one will be a custom made 320 cube so but i will still be under 5 feet. But anyway your tank now looks nice. If you are going to a 150 or you might want to concider using some 250 or 400 watt mh get more penetration or even t5's. Keep us up to date on the progress....

Do you plan on building the sump yourself?
|
yes i am going to build the sump and tank , sump first to see how good i am then the tank . probably 1/4 inch plexy for sump then 1/2 inch for the tank maybe 3/4 but price just about doubles for 3/4 from 1/2
________ VAPOR GENIE |
What are the dimensions of the tank you are planning on building?
|
tank 48 long 24 wide 30 tall
sump will be around 30 long 20 wide 12-18 tall ________ Yamaha maxim xj750 specifications |
On a 30 inch tall tank it might bow a little using 1/2" depending on how you do the top. Are you thinking about doing a Euro-Style Top? Are you familiar with the pins method?
|
As soon as I get a table saw I plan on doing some acrylic fabrication tutorials on the site.

LOL that's been on my to buy list for over 2 years now. |

but any way here is a nice shot and i think my good frogspawn is sprouting :)

The red slime is cyanobacteria. Here are a few links for some more info -

Would need a better pic. It is probably a good idea to remove it. The frogspawn is looking very healthy! |
The plastics distributor near me only carries 1/2" and 3/4" thick sheets so I'm not sure that acrylite GP comes in 5/8" thick. Other brands might come in that size.
|
I want to do a 75 or 90 gallon with acrylic. Not sure if I would need 3/8 or 1/2 though. Someone told me 3/8 for the 75, but def. 1/2 for a 90.
|
Personally i would go 1/2", but I tend to overbuild things. With good bracing on the top you could probably get by with 3/8". What is the height? A standard 75 gallon is around 18-20" tall. Water pressure increases exponentially as the tank gets taller.
|
i alway think when in dout over kill it go with 1/2 better safe then sorry i think i will go with 3/4 but at 800$ us a sheet :(
and thanks for info frag- the crab has never harmed any thing but i have made shure to always keep him happy he now comes out at feeding time with the eel and fish maybe i will keep feeding him and one day i can have a crab dinner :) ________ Payment protection insurance forums |
hey frag- where are u located or do you know a good online place for acrilic for info and maybe prices ?
________ MICHIGAN MEDICAL MARIJUANA DISPENSARIES |
Yeah, maybe ill just go with 1/2 and make a 90. Never can have enough water! I read somewhere to only use cell-cast acrylic for tanks, but the distributor near me only sells acrylite FF which says its extruded, but also goes by cast. Im confused. 3/4 inch is like 12.10 a square foot. Yikes.
|
Im in chat if anyone cares to join. It's gettin lonely. |
$800 seems a bit steep. Are you getting this price from a local plastics supplier? My local plastics supplier has .708 thick Acrylite GP listed at 14.02 per sq ft on their website. Although I'm not sure how accurate the price is or how often they update their website price list. But $14.02 X 32 sq ft = $448.64 per sheet.
I'd keep an eye on the crab and keep him well fed if you plan to keep him. Although it would be high on my list of suspects if something was to get eaten. Maybe he would taste good with some lemon butter sauce! :D |

I was just about to read a few pages of Calfo's book and go to bed but I'll hop in the chat room for a few. Give me a minute to fire up the laptop. |
A 1 inch 48" x 120" sheet would only be $640.80 fom interstate plastics. *00 does seem a little steep for 3/4. Unless you're buying a massive sheet of course.
|
FF is extruded and the 1/4" is great for building small sumps and fuges but I would not recommend for anything under a lot of water pressure. Definitely go for cell cast when building a tank.
