Watch out for Local Fish Store Advise

Hello all again and i just had to put this post on here to let people know what is really gong on out there in the fish or saltwater world. Well here we go. After checking my set-up i done for a few people i noticed a few aptaises at least 6. I asked my client where those came from he said that he bought them for $5 each ($30 bucks for all them). I asked him why he said that the guy at the fish store said that they will turn into pretty anemones that clowns will live in. So after setting the record straight with him and showing him and leaving one of my books to read he is now understanding why i charge what i do for a monthly maintance contract...... I then go to the LFS and start chewing AZZ  come to find out that some newbe that started working there a week ago told him that is what they are... (how in the hell) So i talk to the manager and asked him if i can buy some aptaisa and will they grow into anemones. The dude said yes. So i give him one of my business cards for my maintance and frag thing i have gong on and he was unable to say anything. This happened 2 weeks ago and the store is now closed not because of me though.

That is some seriously funny crap! Don't get me wrong, I understand how bad all that is for this hobby, but I just have to laugh at how stupid retailers can be sometimes. Many years ago, I used to work in retail and the level of disinformation was never as bad then as it is now. My wife often asks me why I don't go up to the people working in places like Best Buy. It's because I usually know more about the products they are selling than they do. Mostly because I spend a lot of time researching my purchases BEFORE I buy.

It needs to be the same with this hobby. People still think setting up one fish tank is the same as the next. Buy a tank, add water, drop in fish, instant aquarium. Now, I've done my own stupid things in this hobby, but at least I read a few books before I went out and spent a crapload of money on something I had no clue about.

As for the LFS going out of business...survival of the fittest. I'll actually be flying in to Denver next week for business in Boulder. At least it's one less LFS I'll have to take a peek at while I'm out there.

That is a hilarious story. LFS's that sell aiptasia to unknowing customers and offer such bad advice have no place in the reefkeeping community. Stores that offer such bad advice will discourage newbies who wonder why 6 months later their aiptasia is the same size and why nemo shows no interest in hosting in it.
